Static vs. Dynamic Wrinkles

Middle Aged Woman With Perfect Skin

There are two types of facial wrinkles: static, such as creases on the cheeks and around the mouth that are always present, and dynamic, such as frown lines, lip wrinkles, and crow’s feet. And while both types of wrinkles can produce a more aged and tired appearance, they will not respond similarly to the same treatments. This is partly why, at The Smile Centre, we offer both BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers.

Static wrinkles respond well to dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®, which use hyaluronic acid to restore volume to facial areas that are sunken, hollow, or depressed. Ideal treatment areas include the cheeks, the temples, tear troughs, and nasal labial folds, where JUVÉDERM can add subtle volume to produce a noticeably more youthful appearance. JUVÉDERM can also add volume to the lips, creating ideal symmetry to highlight your smile.

For the smile itself, JUVÉDERM treats the “black triangles” that can form following periodontal therapy or the placement of dental crowns and implants.

Dynamic wrinkles are treated with BOTOX Cosmetic, which blocks the signals between nerves and muscles, allowing tense muscles to relax and skin to smooth. It is commonly used to correct frown lines, smoker’s wrinkles, bunny lines, crow’s feet, and pebbly chin.

Before it was approved for cosmetic use, however, BOTOX was used strictly for medical purposes. At our Sarasota office, we can use BOTOX to treat:

It is important to remember that while BOTOX and dermal fillers can both offer exciting benefits, neither is designed to last forever. BOTOX treatments can last for three to six months. JUVÉDERM can last for 12 to 18. Results from both can be maintained through regularly scheduled touch-up treatments.
