Digital Smile Design is a technology used to improve the diagnosis, smile design, team communication, treatment planning, and clinical execution of your procedure. Digital Smile Design helps you design an irresistible smile, aids the dentist in delivering extremely precise and predictable results, and creates a unique experience for you to visualize results before any treatment is performed. This high-tech feature allows us to create a truly customized treatment plan that you get to tweak to match your ideal goals. This means you can develop and plan for the exact shade, size, and shape of your teeth.

Our cosmetic dentists use Digital Smile Design technology with our smile makeover and full mouth reconstruction patients. By using this app, we are able to develop a comprehensive digital strategy that improves your ability to envision your ideal smile.

If you would like to enhance your smile, you can receive personalized treatment recommendations by seeing one of our dentists.

During your first appointment, the information gathering occurs. Our dentists will perform a very thorough exam and take all records necessary for creating the perfect smile design plan. This involves intraoral and extraoral photos, radiographs, facial scans, intraoral scans, and a 3D image.

All the information gathered during your initial appointment will be used to start creating your new smile. Your unique facial structure and features will be used as a guide to plan for your smile makeover.

The smile design created during the previous step is used to develop your treatment plan. This ensures your smile makeover is truly personalized to address your unique needs and goals.

Cone Beam 3D Dental Imaging

Dental cone beam CT scans provide more information than conventional dental x-rays, allowing for more precise treatment planning. The focused x-ray beam reduces scatter radiation which provides a high quality image. The versatility of this 3D image makes it useful for our dentists to evaluate the following:

  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • Dental implant sites - bone level
  • Jaw and bone deformities/misalignments
  • TMJ disorders
  • Facial trauma
  • Tumors and cysts
  • Oral cancer
  • Airway and sinuses

A single scan produces a wide variety of views and angles that allow our dentists to manipulate while comprehensively treatment planning. This 3D image is a powerful, safe resource for our dentists to painlessly and accurately diagnose. The scans are quick, noninvasive, and painless.

Digital X-rays

Benefits of Digital X-rays include:

  • Significantly less exposure to radiation than traditional x-rays
  • More detailed, accurate analysis due to higher resolution
  • Immediately transfers images to allow the dentist to review
  • Images can be enlarged and saved for future reference
  • Less painful, instant results

This technology eliminates the need for chemical processing or developing images. Once we capture the image of each tooth, it instantly appears on our monitor.

Intraoral Camera/Extraoral Photos

The digital x-rays reveal the inside of the tooth’s structure as well as bone level and decay. The photos help the doctor see the outside of the teeth. Dental photography is extremely helpful for diagnosing tooth decay, staining, cracked teeth, fractures, and gum disease. Our team uses the intraoral and extraoral photos in our examinations as a tool to educate our patients on their dental health. This technology helps capture fracture lines, staining, cracked teeth, broken fillings or crowns that are otherwise hard to notice by patients.

Additionally, this dental photography assists in the process of getting insurance claims accepted and paid for. This will help streamline dental insurance claim processing for quicker payments to the patients and higher acceptance of treatment needs when adequately showing necessity of treatment.

iTero Scanner

Benefits of digital dental impressions:

  • Much more comfortable for patients
  • 3D digital scan or teeth and bite to replace the impression material
  • Aids in the creation of all types of dental restorations and orthodontics
  • Increased precision
  • Helps severe gagging patients receive the care they need
  • Removes the risk of gagging and swallowing excess impression material
  • Single-use imaging shields for maximum infection control
  • Transmits your records wirelessly for time-efficient lab processing

Convenient, comfortable alternative to the dreaded “goo” impression

Traditionally, dental impressions were taken by inserting large metal trays and liquid plaster against the upper and lower jaw. The material sets to become an elastic solid, providing a detailed replica of a patient’s smile. Patients often feel this tradition method is uncomfortable, time-consuming

Non-invasive, 3-5 minute scan that digitally captures the form and structure of the tooth and gum line through a series of 3D pictures

Can be used for ortho/invisalign, veneers, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, implants, etc

Velscope

Did you know about 53,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year alone? When oral cancer is detected and treated early, the survival rate is good ~83%. However, when oral cancer is found late, the survival rate is poor ~32%.

VELscope is used by our dental professionals as a standard of care. Velscope is the most powerful tool available for enhanced visualization of oral abnormalities. This is the best technology to detect dangerous lesions that would have otherwise been undetected. With the VELscope, our dentist is able to ensure that areas of concern are identified and appropriately investigated.

This oral cancer screening is quick and painless, yet very effective.

The blue light stimulates natural fluorescence in the soft tissues of the mouth (i.e. lips, mouth, throat), which allows us to see abnormalities not visible with the naked eye

Factors that can increase the risk of oral cancer:

  • Tobacco, chewing tobacco, and alcohol (especially those over the age of 40)
  • Young, healthy, nonsmokers with HPV (under the age of 50)
  • The gender ratio has become 2:1 men to women
  • Combining the use of tobacco and heavy use of alcohol significantly increases risk
  • Prolonged exposure to UV radiation (i.e. sun)
  • Diets low in fruits and vegetables

Oral cancer appears as a growth or sore in the mouth that does not go away. Oral cancer, which includes cancers of the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, lower gums, hard and soft palate, sinuses, and throat, can be life-threatening when not found early.

Possible signs and symptoms include:

  • White or red patch(es) of tissue in the mouth
  • Small indurated ulcer(s) which sometimes look like a common canker sore
  • Any sore or discoloration that does not heal for longer than 14 days
  • Painless lump or mass inside mouth or throat
  • Pain or difficulty swallowing, speaking, or chewing
  • Wart-like masses
  • Long-term hoarseness
  • Numbness in oral/facial region
  • Unilateral persistent ear ache
