The digital x-rays reveal the inside of the tooth’s structure as well as bone level and decay. The photos help the doctor see the outside of the teeth. Dental photography is extremely helpful for diagnosing tooth decay, staining, cracked teeth, fractures, and gum disease. Our team uses the intraoral and extraoral photos in our examinations as a tool to educate our patients on their dental health. This technology helps capture fracture lines, staining, cracked teeth, broken fillings or crowns that are otherwise hard to notice by patients.

Factors that can increase the risk of oral cancer:
- Tobacco, chewing tobacco, and alcohol (especially those over the age of 40)
- Young, healthy, nonsmokers with HPV (under the age of 50)
- The gender ratio has become 2:1 men to women
- Combining the use of tobacco and heavy use of alcohol significantly increases risk
- Prolonged exposure to UV radiation (i.e. sun)

Oral cancer appears as a growth or sore in the mouth that does not go away. Oral cancer, which includes cancers of the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, lower gums, hard and soft palate, sinuses, and throat, can be life-threatening when not found early.
Possible signs and symptoms include:
- White or red patch(es) of tissue in the mouth
- Small indurated ulcer(s) which sometimes look like a common canker sore
- Any sore or discoloration that does not heal for longer than 14 days
- Painless lump or mass inside mouth or throat
- Pain or difficulty swallowing, speaking, or chewing
