Invisalign®

Dentists Serving Patients in Sarasota, Venice, Bradenton & Nearby Areas of Florida

Sarasota InvisalignIn the past, traditional metal braces were the primary option to address orthodontic issues. Today, there are more options than ever before to achieve a straight, beautiful smile, and Invisalign® has become an extremely popular alternative to metal braces. If you've avoided orthodontic treatment due to the many hassles associated with metal braces, then Invisalign might be an excellent option for you.

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable plastic aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. These aligners are virtually undetectable to others, making them a popular choice for individuals who would like to avoid an unsightly "mouth full of metal."

You can find out whether Invisalign is right for you and receive individualized treatment recommendations by speaking with our dentists in person. If you'd like to schedule an Invisalign consultation at The Smile Centre, please call 941-366-3636 for our Sarasota office or 941-497-5451 for our Venice office.

Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign is an effective treatment method for adults and teenagers who feel uncomfortable with the idea of wearing traditional braces and would prefer the flexibility of using removable aligners to achieve their orthodontic goals. In general, Invisalign achieves excellent results for the treatment of mild to moderate orthodontic issues, including:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Unevenly spaced teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth

If you need to correct more severe orthodontic issues such as very crooked teeth, teeth that need to move vertically, or rotated teeth, Invisalign may not be the best option to achieve your desired results. In these situations, traditional braces are the better choice.

In addition, Invisalign candidates must:

  • Have a fully developed mouth
  • Be non-smokers
  • Have healthy teeth and gums

If you have gum disease or tooth decay, it won't necessarily prevent you from undergoing Invisalign treatment. However, our dentists will need to treat these conditions and restore optimal levels of oral health before you can start Invisalign treatment.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Venice Invisalign dentistInvisalign uses a series of clear, removable plastic aligners to gradually shift your teeth into their proper position. This adjustment will also correct your bite and jaw alignment. Best of all, your customized aligners will enable you to undergo treatment without the use of uncomfortable metal brackets or wiring.

During your first visit to our office, our dentists will create an impression of your bite using 3D computer imaging technology. This impression will be used by the Invisalign lab to create your customized set of aligners.

You'll wear each aligner for approximately two weeks before moving on to the next aligner in the series. This process repeats until you've gone through every aligner and have achieved a straight, beautiful smile. On average, a complete Invisalign treatment lasts between 9 and 15 months, and the number of aligners required for treatment ranges from 18 to 30.

Keep in mind that in order to achieve the best possible results, you'll need to wear each aligner for approximately 22 hours a day. The only time you should remove them is to eat and brush your teeth. Your commitment to diligently wearing the aligners at all other times is crucial to the success of your procedure.

Benefits of Invisalign

You'll experience a variety of benefits when you choose Invisalign:

  • Invisible -- The clear plastic aligners are virtually undetectable by others, providing a much more discreet treatment option than braces.
  • Removable -- Remove your aligners when you eat and when you brush your teeth. This will enable you to eat all of your favorite foods, and it will help you maintain optimal levels of oral health throughout your treatment.
  • Customized treatment -- The Invisalign lab will create a custom set of aligners intended to address your unique orthodontic issues.
  • Comfortable -- The aligners are made of smooth, form-fitting plastic that won't irritate your mouth like the metal wires and brackets used with braces do. In addition, the painful tightening sessions that occur when you wear metal braces will not be a part of your Invisalign treatment.
  • Fewer office visits -- Since you don't have wires and brackets that need tightening, you'll be able to visit our office less often throughout your Invisalign treatment. In most instances, you can take home three sets of aligners at a time, allowing you to go six weeks between each office visit.
