Teeth Crowns and Bridges
Serving the Sarasota, Tampa and Tampa Bay areas
Dental crowns and bridges are porcelain restorations Dr. Stanley can use to correct a couple of different problems you may have with your teeth. Dental crowns are used to restore and strengthen teeth that have been damaged and cannot be corrected with white fillings. Dental bridges are used to correct gaps in smiles caused by missing teeth.
Dr. Stanley uses both porcelain crowns and bridges so that your restored teeth match the rest of your natural teeth as closely as possible. Porcelain is excellent for this because it is not only color matched to blend in but it is also translucent, similar to your natural teeth, for a more natural appearance.
Crowns
During your dental crown procedure, Dr. Stanley will determine which teeth are damaged or decayed. In order for the crown to be placed, Dr. Stanley will have to remove some of your natural tooth tissue.
Once the natural tooth tissue has been removed, Dr. Stanley will take a mold of the tooth so that your custom-made crown can be created. Dr. Stanley will send the mold, along with specific instructions on what you would like for your crown, to a dental lab where your custom, permanent crown will be created.
After the mold has been taken, Dr. Stanley will place a temporary crown on your tooth to protect it and allow you to function normally while the permanent crown is being created. When the permanent crown arrives from the dental lab, you will return to Dr. Stanley's cosmetic dentistry office where he will permanently bond the dental crown to your tooth.
Bridges
Dental bridges are used to fill the space created when you lose a tooth. A dental bridge is an excellent solution to restore your smile and prevent other teeth from drifting out of place because of the missing tooth.
A dental bridge is a replacement tooth that is bonded to dental crowns on either side of the gap created by the missing tooth. In order for a dental bridge to be placed, Dr. Stanley will shape the neighboring teeth so that they can receive dental crowns.
Once the teeth have been reshaped, Dr. Stanley will make an impression of the entire area. This impression will be sent to a dental lab that will create your permanent bridge. While the permanent bridge is being created, Dr. Stanley will provide you with temporary crowns for your teeth.
Once the dental bridge returns from the dental lab, you will return to the dentist office so that Dr. Stanley can permanently bond the dental bridge in place.
