TMJ Treatments
Serving the Sarasota, Tampa and Tampa Bay areas
In order to evaluate your temporomandibular joint and determine if you are suffering from TMJ, Dr. Stanley uses advanced technology to track and determine if malocclusion is causing your TMJ symptoms.
Since the cause of TMJ symptoms is the result of a misaligned temporomandibular joint, the solution and treatment for the symptoms is aligning the joint by making sure your jaw is in it's optimal position, relaxing the muscles and nerves that are being strained.
In order to correct your TMJ symptoms, Dr. Stanley will usually develop a treatment plan specific to your needs. TMJ treatment follows a few common steps, including:
- Relieving muscle pain - painful muscles surrounding the temporomandibular joint are relaxed with electronic stimulation. Dr. Stanley uses ULF-TENS (Ultra Low Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Neural Stimulation) technology to soothe muscles in your jaw.
- Stabilizing your bite - after Dr. Stanley has determined where your optimal jaw position is, he will help you keep your jaw in the position with a temporary orthotic that can be used to relieve your symptoms before a permanent treatment is performed.
- Long-term treatment - This can include any number of different TMJ solutions, including slightly reshaping your teeth, placing crowns over your teeth, orthodontics, or removable orthotic devices.
